I am a college student that went to the book club cafe to enjoy a good breakfast and study for my national board exam. When me and my study partner arrived we came through the back door and sat in a booth where a hostess approached us and had us move to the front where we could wait to be seated by a hostess. We went to the front and waited, the moment they saw our laptops and book bags they tried seating us in their “workstation” which included a 2x2 table and two chairs. Knowing this wouldn’t be enough room for us to eat and have our books out we request a booth and they responded that the only other place we could sit was at a picnic table in the back outside even though there were clearly booths available inside (the one we sat at when we first walked in). We sat at the picnic table outside and began studying, we ordered our food and drinks (I will say the food was really good and came out fast and hot). We had been studying for about an hour and a half when the hostess approached us and asked if they could give the booth we were sitting at to another party. We chose to leave instead of moving to another table outside.
Seemed like a good location. Trendy, food was decent. Excellent beer selection. But despite the vibe of being cool and laid back they ARE NOT VAPE FRIENDLY. That's enough to keep me from returning.
A local favorite. Everything on the menu is excellent... I've had most of it. The barista will make sure you're happy with your coffee.
Wow! What an amazing place! Great breakfast, excellent coffee, wonderful service. A very well put together resturant. This place could easily be found in Venice Beach, CA, but without the high prices and snobbery. I will revisit!!!
Apart from feeling like a complete incovnvinience to the staff our waitress was very nice and the food was very good. If you are a student looking to study do not be fooled by the name of the cafe. The “book club cafe” is a misrepresentation of what to expect when you go there.
While I can't say I'm crazy about the armosphere, the food and service are excellent! My husband and son absolutely love the grass fed beef burgers. They arent skimpy on the size of those patties either. I don't eat red meat, so I usually get one of their salads. The Green Goat is really good....the goat cheese is super creamy and delicious! I didn't give it 5 stars only because it's a little pricey.
